This is a virtual instructor led training (VILT) course that is part of the Pricing Tools and Techniques (CCON 017) Credentials. This course describes the role that cost models play in the overall acquisition process, with a workbook that provides an in-depth walkthrough of the Cost Model building process. Students will be challenged to demonstrate their ability to develop a Proposed Cost Model along with a Government Objective Position. This course illustrates the importance of cost models and Cost Estimating Relationships (CERs), and ways to gain efficiencies when creating a cost model in today’s agile environment. This course may be taken as a standalone course but is also a component of the Advanced Proposal Analysis - Direct Costs and Cost Modeling Credential.

Target Attendees
Civilians and military equivalents (GS-9 and above) with at least 2 years of experience in the Contracting functional area (specifically 1102s). This course is recommended for Price Analysts, Contracting Officers, Contract Specialists, Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) auditors, and Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA).

Recommended Prerequisites:
  • Attendees should have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and a good understanding of Cost Analysis and the individual cost elements in FAR Table 15-2. For those who don't, consider taking CON 7310V - Cost Analysis.
  • CCON 018 Excel Skills for Business is not a prerequisite for this course; however, taking it prior to this course will help enhance your Excel skills.
Time Commitment:
  • There are three Mandatory Instructor-led trainings where Attendance is required to pass the course: Day 1 (3.5 hours), Day 2 (3 hours), Day 6 (3 hours).
  • There is one other Instructor-led training where Attendance is not required to pass the course: Day 9 (1.5 hours).
  • There will be Optional Virtual Open Office Hours conducted in MS Teams based on the following schedule: Open Office Hours: Day 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 - Est. 1 hr/day (assumes partial attendance).
Additional Information:
  • Virtual classes are conducted via MS Teams.
  • Students are required to test connectivity with DAU IT prior to the class start date.
  • DAU does not reimburse student phone/internet charges.
  • The Pre-Course Assessment should be completed before Day 1.
  • This course will consist of synchronous and asynchronous portions.
  • The CLPs assigned to this learning activity may be used to meet professional certification and/or licensure requirements (PDUs/CPE credits).
