(Last Modified:28-Feb-2019)

Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques (STAT) in Test and Evaluation (T&E) focuses on using STAT to identify and mitigate risk in test activities and how doing so should lead to more rigorous and defensible test strategies and results.
Explain how STAT can generate T&E efficiencies and improve the level of knowledge during test planning, execution, and analysis.
  • Define STAT, recognize the value of STAT in T&E, and identify policy and guidance governing the use of STAT in T&E
  • Define Design of Experiments (DOE), describe the phases of DOE to include the four steps in the Plan and Design phases, distinguish between design options, describe statistical Measures of Merit, and describe design evaluation
  • Define Observational Study, distinguish DOE from Observational Study, explain why Observational Studies are used, and identify the various types of Observational Studies
  • Explain the purpose of a survey and how it can be used in T&E, identify the parts of a survey and elements of survey quality, and distinguish between empirically-vetted and custom-made surveys
  • Define statistical analysis and its key elements, identify elements of the analysis checklist, describe pre-modeling and exploratory data analysis, distinguish between several types of statistical models, and describe the relationship between model fitting and checking assumptions
  • Target Attendees
Mid-level military and civilians in the T&E, PM, ENG career fields
