Description
In Section 804 of the FY 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Congress directed the DoD to establish guidance for a "Middle Tier" of acquisition programs. Mid-Tier programs follow one of two acquisitions pathways, either Rapid Prototyping or Rapid Fielding, and are to be completed within five years. This workshop presents an historical overview, a discussion of the two pathways, a description of other DoD 5000 acquisition pathways, current status of MTA programs, service specific guidance, and lessons learned.

This workshop covers:
  • Why MTA? Why Rapid?
  • MTA congressional language from Section 804 of the FY 2016 NDAA
  • How MTA fits within the Acquisition framework
  • USD (A&S) and Service specific governance
