This course expands upon the fundamentals course arming the learner with a solid working knowledge of financial management concepts and processes as applied to Defense acquisition programs. Topics include; cost estimating; acquisition strategy; Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution (PPBE); budget exhibits; congressional enactment; program execution; contract types and contract execution. The highlight of this course is the interactive capstone exercise that focuses on the Execution phase of the DoD’s PPBE process. Graduates should find themselves well prepared for the follow on course that applies DoD financial management concepts and processes to various challenges mid-level managers will encounter in Defense acquisition processes.
